# Agent credentials

> How a coding agent obtains and stores a Prism API key.

Prism does not offer agent self-signup. The workspace owner issues an API key
from the dashboard and passes it to the agent; the agent stores it without
exposing it.

## Get a key

Ask the workspace owner for an existing `PRISM_API_KEY`, or have them create one
in the Prism dashboard. Store it through the matching
[Codex](https://docs.prisminference.com/guides/codex.md), [OpenCode](https://docs.prisminference.com/guides/opencode.md), [Hermes](https://docs.prisminference.com/guides/hermes.md),
or [OpenClaw](https://docs.prisminference.com/guides/openclaw.md) guide. Never repeat the key to the human, log or
commit it, or include it in the final response.

The legacy agent-signup endpoints (`POST /api/agent-signups` and
`POST /api/agent-signups/verify`) are closed and return `403 signup_disabled`.
